August has started, and it's time for a new Mixed Media Card Challenge!
This month we are filling our mixed media card creations with butterflies.
I have many butterfly stamps in my stock, but decided this time to use my new Tim Holtz/Sizzix paper punch. I love it! It's so easy and light to use, and does not take much storage space. Perfect!
So using that butterfly paper punch, some golden texture paste, a stencil, pieces of scrap paper, gold embossing powder and some stamps I made this card:
For the background I used the versatile 'Tiles' stencil by Tim Holtz.
Live Your Dreams stamp is from Visible Image collection.
Easy framing with tape and embossing powder
Around each sentiment word there's a thin golden border. Here's how I made it:I cut a piece of two-sided tape, put it on black cardstock, and placed the stamped word on the tape. Then I trimmed the cardstock aroud the word leaving a thin border (1-2 mm).
I sprinked gold/glitter embossing powder on the frame. The powder attached to the tape, I tapped the excess powder off, and put back in the can.
When heating the powder I noticed that melting the powder took a little bit longer than normal, but the end result looked the same as when I use embossing ink for attaching the powder.
When using tape as embossing powder adhesive it's important not to heat the embossing powder too much. Different tapes may react differently to heat, so it's a good idea to try it on a scrap paper first.
I hope my card inspired you to make your own butterfly card! Please follow this link to see all the gorgeous DT projects, to read all the challenge details and to link your project.
Wishing you a wonderful and creative weekend!
Hugs,
